Mike Phelan believes Manchester United have the right to break Michael Owen smoothly after his move from Newcastle was.
The striker had his time in the first part of pending Premier League season, with Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov before him in the pecking order.
He won a prize in the ability to meet Carling Cup game against Barnsley on Wednesday and with a beautiful goal, a 2:0-label success.
It remains to be seen whether Owen will retain his place for the home clash with Blackburn, but assistant coach Phelan has been pleased with his progress.
“Michael has come Manchester United because he represents a new challenge for him,” said Phelan.
