LIVERPOOL, Oct 25: Fernando Torres and his substitute David Ngog fired the decisive goals as Liverpool led champions Manchester United 2-0 in stoppage time at Anfield in the Premier League in the Match of the Season-So-Far.
Liverpool had lost their previous four games but a crucial day got off to a good start for Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez after managing director Christian Purslow insisted the Spaniard’s job was secure even if they did not win the Premier League this season. He also insisted that Torres and Steven Gerrard were not for sale at any price – and Torres duly demonstrated his enormous importance to the club.
