Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has refuted suggestions that his side go into Sunday’s trip to Liverpool with a point to prove after last season’s defeats against the Merseysiders.
Rafa Benitez’s side completed a double over their rivals that included a 4-1 hammering of the Red Devils at Old Trafford, but Ferguson thinks that has no bearing on Sunday’s game.
“I don’t see that we have a point to prove. Different games are shaped by circumstances of games,” he explained to reporters at his Friday press conference.
“You can’t look at last season as a barometer of our form or Liverpool’s form. Derby games are derby games and anyone can win it.
