Not content with being one of the fastest men on the planet – with the medals and records to prove it – Usain Bolt wants to take on a second sport. And he already had the team he wants to play for picked out.

The Jamaican sprinter played soccer in high school, mainly as a defender, but now at the age of 24 he wants to get back into the sport seriously. And, no kidding, he wants to play for the legendary Manchester United.

In his newly released autobiography Bolt writes “Ideally, if I was to play football (soccer) , I’d sign for my favorite team — Manchester United. People say it’s not realistic but nobody has seen me play so you never know. If Alex Ferguson [the Manchester United manager] saw me in one of those charity matches he might think I could replace Ryan Giggs.”

Manchester United striker Michael Owen is set to pull on a Liverpool jersey for the first time in six years when he plays for the club at Jamie Carragher’s testimonial, according to a report from The Guardian.

The former England international received some barracking when he returned to Anfield as a United player last season, and there are understood to be concerns as to how he would be treated by fans should he take part in the match.

Owen is understood to have given his word to Carragher, a player whom he considers one of his closest friends in football, that he will take part in the game on Saturday week, with Jamie Redknapp, Danny Murphy, Jason McAteer and Emile Heskey also set to feature at Anfield.

The Reds’ first encounter with United occurs only a couple of weeks after the testimonal though and Owen will be protected by additional security on his way to and from the stadium.

MICHAEL OWEN has declared himself “fit and ready to go” for his second season with Manchester United.

Striker Owen, 30, ruptured a hamstring in last season’s Carling Cup Final win over Aston Villa and spent the summer getting over the injury. He spent the summer recovering at United’s Carrington training ground and said: “When you’re coming back, in some training sessions you feel absolutely great and then in others you feel heavy legged.

“But now I feel fine, fit and ready to go.”Owen’s return, and the arrival of summer signings Javier Hernandez and Bebe, have given manager Sir Alex Ferguson a wealth of striking options. Owen came on as a 74th-minute sub in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Fulham, and feels that competition for places is good for United. He said: “Gone are the days when you were selfish about your football. The club employ you to benefit them and do what is best for them, so whenever you’re called upon you are ready.

” The fans are really excited about the new signings, particularly Javier. He looks really sharp in training and in games.”It’s difficult to come from another country with different food and different weather, particularly at the turn of the year in England when it’s freezing cold every day.”It will be interesting to see how Javier settles in, but so far so good.”

Sir Alex Ferguson has closed the door on any further signings and that includes Rafael van der Vaart, according to Sport

The Real Madrid midfielder has been recently linked with a move to Old Trafford after he has appeared to have fallen down the pecking order in Jose Mourinho’s squad.

However, both Manchester United and Madrid have stoutly denied any possibilities of such a move.

Ferguson has declared he is done with his summer shopping and will not be welcoming any more new players at the club.

He said: “All our positions are covered and our squad is complete.”

Van der Vaart’s agent Robert Geerling has also ruled out a move to the Premier League and that his client will stay and fight for his place at the Bernabeu

“Nobody at Real Madrid has said that Rafael has to go. Last year the competition for places was similar and he ended up being first choice and he looks strong enough to repeat history.

“There are many teams interested in Rafael, what remains to be seen is whether they can convince him to leave the Bernabeu,” Geerling concluded.
