Manchester United striker Michael Owen is set to pull on a Liverpool jersey for the first time in six years when he plays for the club at Jamie Carragher’s testimonial, according to a report from The Guardian.
The former England international received some barracking when he returned to Anfield as a United player last season, and there are understood to be concerns as to how he would be treated by fans should he take part in the match.
Owen is understood to have given his word to Carragher, a player whom he considers one of his closest friends in football, that he will take part in the game on Saturday week, with Jamie Redknapp, Danny Murphy, Jason McAteer and Emile Heskey also set to feature at Anfield.
The Reds’ first encounter with United occurs only a couple of weeks after the testimonal though and Owen will be protected by additional security on his way to and from the stadium.
